find any book that has chapters that shows examples of preferably in a project development format. like, o'relly they have books they take a single project for examples with source code to explain every aspect of that language.
to learn programming basics take any starter books barrons are ok or get dummy series's.
for web applications
www.w3schools.com is where i found my answers when i learned my first web applications.... mostly.
and google is your ultimate friend.

#6If your just into the basic's so far and have not received the book's download Jcreator lite and fiddle around with it with the online guide's It's not much but it's a good way to "free roam" while waiting for the books.
