I prefer the solid points approach. After being the target of a devastating blow i prefer the relative ease of mind that mining provides. It also provides something to fall back upon should something else happen. If i so wanted, i COULD build a rather large fleet in a very short space of time, i just don't choose to. I don't have the patience and determination that fleeting requires, people may call that laziness or lack of skill. But hell, my rank speaks for itself, can't be that bad can it?
I do realise that Gumppy or a few other could farm me into oblivion should they choose, mainly because i have very undefended planets. I've never seen a need to defend them, i hardly even get probed. However, if i chose to invest in a defence on each of those planets, coupled with the fact that i harvest my feeders of res very regularly, it is very unlikely i will be stopped in my tracks. Granted, i could not defend them enough to be immune to you, but enough that you need to launch enough ships to get through it that what you gain is not worth the launch.
