I dont believe we will ever go at the speed of light, but we might get to a speed that approaches light. As technology advances, speed continues to get faster and faster.Unfortunately, it will take some need to go this speed, rather than a desire to (most great achievements have been due to the need of it rather then the want for it). I guess i jacked this thread and made it into a different conversation. Carry on with the science :geek: :D

Can I ask why you would want to?

People worry too much about space travel like its going to be some sort of amazing thing. YOU will, in all likely hood, never get a chance to step foot on an alien planet, much less LIVE on one. We can't even live on the MOON. You know, that thing orbiting around us that we just kind of went "Yeah! We're here! Lets go?"

I've honestly never understood the fascination with actually going to other planets. The theory of going to other planets and the possibility are nice, but the actual "Lets put people there" is kind of a strange decision, to me. Forget the fact that we can't even keep a permanent colony on the moon yet, lets waste billions of tax payer dollars on putting 5 random guys on Mars, just so they can be world heroes. It is entirely pointless right now... Manned space explorations are just idiotic, when you consider all the money going down the toilet so a handful of people can say they walked on another planet. Granted they DO supply additional information, I don't think the amount of information is enough for the amount of time and money put in. And the "LIFE ON MARS!" is kind of stupid, too. Its not like we really LEARN anything if we find life on Mars, other than that we aren't a fluke in the universe and there IS other life. But that doesn't really help tell us HOW we got here. It would be very simple bacteria at best, which we've got right here on Earth, study the for a fraction of the cost. And unless you find a way to simulate gravity, LIVING on Mars is a no-no...So...Mars expeditions=total fail. /rant

But, anyway...I've never been a fan of the wormhole theory. It just seems like a bit of a leap, to me. Tearing space-time can't be the smartest of things, if you ask me...I do like the idea of hyperspace engines. They still seem a bit odd in how they would work, but I just find for credibility in them than wormholes. That is probably just my limited knowledge on the subject, though.

As far as contact with another species (which is very unlikely for some time now), i understand the importance of that. However, i have to agree that theres no point to live on another planet. Sure, SOMEDAY the sun will expand, yadda yadda yadda. But, that wont be for some time now. In the mean time, theres no reason for manned missions to mars, or any other planet at the moment. With the economy in shambles and pollution continuing to ruin the ozone (if you believe in it anyway), we need to focus on our immediate needs before you go ahead and worry about other planets.

I am a big fan of science.
Your question of travelling faster than the speed of light is not possible, for now, that is.
The only thing possible for now is the so called worm hole.
The so called god particle which is the antimatter can be put to space.
That would absorb space like a black hole therefore closing nearby planets together and now a wormhole is formed
At least that's my theory. Hey I'm just young I dont have instrumental gadgets I just imagine.
Time travelling I believe would be possible the only thing faster than the light is. . . . . . An atom.
Atoms have infinite energy. They never stop.
But the question is, how do you yourself fit inside a particle an atom size.

That's what is in my mind for now! I'll let you know If I ever think of some more.
I may be crazy but dont blame me. . . . . . . . . . . .

An atom? Seriously?. Just because you're young doesn't mean you can say whatever comes to mind. Read some books. Atoms are made of particles called Neutrons, Protons and Electrons, and they, my friend, do not move at the speed of light.

Dood If you imagine the electrical circuit. . . .
Electricity is also made up of atoms
What if you pump up the electricity to it's maximum capacity then that would speed up the atoms in the electricity
Atoms move faster because of energy right? If you increase the energy in both protons and electrons then they move faster!
If you dont understand why is because electrons move in a circular motion like earth. The only difference is that if the electrons are nearer in
the nucleon they move faster. Then If you increase the energy in the electron then It circulates faster.Who knows it might even surpass the speed of light. And I read BOOKS! :x

Are you joking?

Like Luis said, energy=/=atoms. Energy isn't matter, atoms are.

What books do you read? Cat in the Hat? o.O

My main concern about going to other planets is that people use it as a way to NOT take care of Earth. "Oh, we'll just colonize new planets." Uh..Not in YOUR lifetime, we won't. And we won't if you keep dumping your toxic waste out of the top of your Hummer...I am by no means an activist, but come on...We got to the moon and we can't even find a way to not wtfpwn our own atmosphere? Pitiful...

Well does atom have energy? :?:

Oh and urweirsaysi People dont say that they dont want to take care of earth!
They want to search for other planets just in case earth heats up until it cant sustain life anymore!
That's why they are searching for another planet to colonize.
Your right about something on that the people dont want to take care of earth.
Most people still mess earth up but on the future when the earth is really messed up that is the time they
will realize they are wrong.
