ACS - use owners W/A/S/P tech levels

i was recently pointed to this when i sought clarification on how acs works

I don't follow the logic of why the defence force should all use the "planet" owners tech levels rather than their own...

is this the same for an ACS attack ... attackers all use the WASP for the initiator? (what happens if the initiator withdraws...)

i can understand that it has made the programming easier (FOR defence)... but really that is a poor excuse to make...

Can we please have it so that fleet components reflect and use there own W/A/S/P values when participating in ACS Attacks or Defends ... (and relevant changes to the simulators).

AND if not already being dealt with... Properly deal with and reflect damage with ACS in the ranking tables/stats it is unacceptable that acs defend damage is not reflected back to the owner but assigned to the defending player.

With this, I concur.

There may be MANY defending fleets, and defending planet may have fleet and defences dishing out damage as well. I do not see how that prescription is feasible.

the "dish" out correct damage scenario for you to consider...

if i acs defend a planet and then attack it ... (to "recycle" some unwanted ships)

i destroy my own ships but that damage is assigned to the planet owner not the fleet owner... clearly a silly outcome...

it shouldn't matter how many "Fleets" are involved... the ships.defences are either destroyed or not... the damege belongs to their owner...

I personally like the way techs work for ACS defend and attack. If you need logic - in a defend, the planet owner is considered to be coordinating the attack. It's his defense grid allied ships are coordinating with. A low tech grid means ships do not operate at peak efficiency. The opposite works just as well. In an attack, the lead player is just setting out a homing beacon. the fleets fight independently once they get there.

It's not a game balance issue. The techs matter, but not enough to make the rules ruin anyone's game. In fact, I can argue the way it is not contributes to game balance. the current system makes it slightly harder to live by the grace of big friends as opposed to just milking a good neighbor for help to cover sloppy play. ( kind of a stretch, but like I said - not enough effect to matter much )

as for how it's reflected in the stats, more accurate statistics are by definition superior to less accurate. I'd rather see other changes first, but if you are updating the stat trackers anyway - I say "go for it"

i assume its more a battle engine change rather than stats ... its the battle engine that calculates /assigns damage... the stats system to me (as a developer) would just be the "ranking" displays...

ie change would require more modification to the battle engine and result in more messages to the stats object...
