Time to expand - local or remote?

Looking for recommendations on expanding. I'm guessing that for Fleet Save I need at least one colony far enough away that at 10% speed it takes 10+ hours to get there. Should I keep everything else close to my current system? Or do a 50-50 with the new colonies all on the other side of the gap?

FYI, I'm still quite green, recently out of witless protection. :shock: I have 4 decent planets (220+ building sites)and 3 junky ones. It's time to grab another 4+ good planets.

It all depends on your situation.

you could keep everything close to home and just mine away well protected.

build a fairly large cluster but have a few self sufficent planets out there.

have a small cluster and put the rest of your colinies with your alliance mates.

scatter your colonies increasing your hunting grounds If you want to fleet.

there are lots of possibilites but your gameplay style should dictate how you choose them

I'd say to scatter your planets, fleeter or not. Have one or two in each galaxy (random systems, of course) and cluster the rest together.

Clustering makes you an easy target. It's someone raiding 15 of your planets versus just one.

Clustering makes you cool. Seriously, unless you plan to be VERY active (I'm talking hours a day) and raise a big fleet, clustering is probably better for you. I would do a cluster of 19 or 20, and 1 or 2 far away just in case you cant find raiding targets.

You can fleetsave with a deathstar in 1 system and will take about 17 hours.
