Recently i decided to raid a planet near me. I took its defences out with a few ipms and then sent 4 fleets to it. I sent several large cargos and a few battleships to it. When my fleets arrived, I got no materials. 0 of everything. This guy I raided had no defences and about 2 million total resources. One more thing. I lost a few ships somehow. How did this I gain nothing but lose ships?

do you need to be in an alliance for someone to ACS defend your planet?

Have you got the Combat Report? This will answer your questions.
No, you need not be in an alliance to ACS Defend. You can ACS Defend anyone at your own discretion.

it was probably a tie

you said you lost some ships, but the report shows 0 lost, and he can also ACS defend himself. Looks like he just moved everything getting LC's from maybe one of his near planets and leaving before you got there. Lots of reasons why that would happen, just PM him and say good counter, cya next time.
