Can your primary planet be destroyed? Et al...

So many questions and often frustrating  to have to hunt through piles of posts to try to get to an answer.

1) Here's one that I've tried to answer by searching, but cannot construct the proper query: Can my home planet be destroyed? [Or, do I just lose lots of resources and live to fight another day?] Is there such a thing as death as a player?

2) There is lots of information about Fleetsaving, but nobody ever seems to say why. Apparently people with larger fleets than mine will come attack me and wipe out my fleet?

3) Don't my fleet resources have the ability to defend? Or, is it that even though they can defend, if they sit on the ground while I am not online, they are particularly vulnerable since they are not in flight?

4) There is info about "howto" on colonization but I cannot find information about the benefits. I cannot believe that it is only because I'll run out of slots to place new structures. (If so, once I get a Moon, I would never need to colonize). Therefore, I assume there must be other benefits. What are they?

Thanks, in advance!

1: No to both. You can't destroy your homeworld.
2: Yes, people will destroy your fleet and recycle it for profit.
3: If you are looking to defend your planet, use defenses. People will attack your fleet if it is sitting.
4: You get more resources if you have more colonies. You can use cargo ships to move your resources back and forth between your planets and just overall gain more ground in the universe.

Excellent answers, thanks.

I'll have to experiment with colonies to get the feel of what you are saying.

Follow-up questions:

5. Can Colonies be destroyed?

6. Why in the world would I want to transport my own resource between my own territories? That seems totally bizarre! I obviously still miss an important reason why I would colonize.

More colonies = more planets to attack from and more mines. Pooling the income will stop it from getting high enough to make you a profit AND will allow you to make the next mine level faster, thus increasing growth.

But what the heck does this mean?

Pooling the income will stop it from getting high enough to make you a profit...

There are no hits on the term 'profit'

What is this evil thing called profit?

But only by you, not other people.

Other players will hit you with their fleet for profit. They will take your res (half of what you have per attack) or destroy your ships. Ships create a debris field which they recycle, thus increasing their resource amounts. Basically, if they can gain more resources from you than they lose in the process, they're going to hit you.

Pooling the income is another way of basically saying you take all your planets resources and put them together. You then fleet save these resources. This prevents any of your planets from becoming profitable to others. It also allows you to upgrade buildings faster or build more ships at one spot.
