When I go to the Overview screen just under the planet image it says Inactive. Does this mean that I am an inactive player? I joined a couple days ago and have logged on every day and mined resources. Should it say inactive?

That just means you are currently not upgrading a building on that planet....

Inactive means you are not currently buidling something on that planet, this does not include ships and defenses.
If you build a mine for example, on the overview it would show you were building that mine underneath the planet image and the time left to build it.

Do not confuse this with inactive players denoted by (i), they are players who have not logged in within a long time period.
