Frustrating loss of espionage ship. Why?

I attacked an (i) with 2 small cargo ships and carried off a full load of resources. This is the second time hitting the same planet in 2 days. Easy, no resistance whatsoever.
BUT . . . this time I sent 1 espionage probe, about 30 seconds after my hit, to see what was left on the planet and if it was worth going again.
The probe was destroyed. How? By what? The player is still inactive and it was only 30 seconds after raiding with the cargo ships.

There's always a chance you'll lose your probes in an espionage mission. That's what the % at the bottom of the report is for.

Its interesting that you should mention that. I neglected to say that I had probed that same planet 1 hour and 5 minutes previously and received the following info:
"Probability of the destruction of the fleets intelligence : 0 %"
So, while I can accept that this is just the way it is, that does not mean it is not just plain stupid.

It's odd sometimes. I've had it happen to me before as well.

Same here, it's happened to me. I've learned that 0% means roughly the same thing as "near impossible" and not really "never", lol.

Yeah it is weird. Especially when you esp. a planet or moon with 0 fleet and 0 defense, and the probes are still destroyed.
