fighters as shield

#1
just wanna know if someone of you know if this is correct but when you have a large amount of fighters going along with the rest of your fleet you lose much less of your bs and destroyers than else but you lose alot of your fighters are they just cannonfood??are they forming somekind of second shield to protect your other ships??

Extra attack is randomly chosen against one of the ships listed in rapidfire. For example, Deathstar who has rapid fire with all other ships, will only attack multiple times one type of ships each round. Of course, the type of ships can change per round. For example, at round 1 it may attack battleships but in round 2 it may attack Light Fighters.
So i guess it can be used as a buffer for the Rapid Fire.

Are we talking about attack formation. Like arrow, flat, slab etc formations or first line of offence like a flank? Cause if we are I have not found any reference of that yet. If there is anything like that I would really appreciate if someone explains it here, else the suggestion is a great IDEA. It will surely make attacks allot more interesting.

When RF was not implemented yet, fodder was not effective IMO.
Yeah large numbers of light ships can cause great damage but the battleships and dessies were a lot more cost effective.

The advantage of larger ships increased more with the rapid fire.
