Ok, I already know the answer to this, but it seems an Alliance mate of mine wants to dispute the Moon-forming mechanics with me, so I'll just do this. Answer the questions so I can settle this fast and easy.

Moon chances are determined by the DF size, correct?

2 mil total DF is needed for a 20% chance of a moon, correct?

If a battle lasts just one round (The attacker's fleet is destroyed in one volley) moons still have the same exact chance of forming as if it had raged on for 5 rounds before the attacker lost, correct?

Sending 56 BS is the most cost-effective way of trading Moonshots, correct?

Moon shots are a matter of chance. A 1% chance can generate a moon as well as a 20% chance.

The type of ships used is irrelevant. Moons will be generated using any type of ship.

2M is an approximate DF needed for 20%.

The number if rounds is irrelevant. It can happen in any number of rounds.

Concerning the 56 BS.
After doing the math on one battle I fought which involved someone attacking one of my planets, I think I can answer your question.
I had no defensive structures, so defense destruction is irrelevant. The attacker lost 0 units, I lost 30k units. A debris field formed consisting of 9k metal and 9k crystal. This means that 60% of ship destruction went into forming a DF.

Assuming this is always the case,

Battleships cost 50k metal and 10k crystal. Therefore, 56 BS would cost 2.8 mil metal and .56 mil crystal. This means if they are all destroyed (and assuming there are no SHIPS defending the planet), there will be a 3.36 mil in total destruction of ships, and thus a 2.016 mil DF. So, yes, I'd say 56 BS is an extremely good way to get the 2 mil in DF you need.

Yeah, I've already worked the math. I tried explaining it to the guy, but apparently hes retarded.

Also, most of the DF formed from BS are metal, which is the cheapest resource LF can get a more precise DF, but you're spending more on Crystal.
