Who here knows a thing or two about installing speakers, subs, amp, and anything else included?

If you do I would like to know a little more about it if you dont mind... Like maybe what would be best to buy or exactly what I need for a great sound system.

IS this for home or car? If for a car, are you are in the US? I don't know how it is there. I know in UK you have a particular chain of stores, Halfords, they usually have warehouses and their trade is the Automotive Industry. They have places where you can see installed ICE. Try it all out, see what sounds the best for you. Is there anything like that where you are, a place where you can try before you buy? ICE is something for the individual. Some folk like there system to look good on the dashboard or wherever it is that it is installed. For a car, who cares what it looks like, the sound is what matter.

If it is for your home, again I would feel it's again, try before you buy? In the home it has to look good as well as sound good. After all it's a piece of furniture to. Installation, most stuff these days is modular, everything looks good together. Uniformity is the key these days. Not like days of yore, best to hide it away if you have all mismatched stuff.

what's the budget? what's the use? what's the room to fill? what kind of music?
you want stereo, multichannel, long throw or wide spread?

there are many opinions on what's to be considered "good", even more brands to choose from.

you want easy? ask a specialist in specialist' store, some of these can recreate your living space in one of their studios for you to try several systems you might like.

you want to know inside and out, you gotta go technical.
Class A/B/H for amps, you know what that means?
switching power or solid transformer ...mosfet...or not...
and on and on...
soft dome, metal dome, magnetostat, electrostat...
2 way, 3 way, more...
bi-amping or not
monoblock setup or one power device for both sides...

Thank you both for the replies. This will be for a 2001 Chevy Tracker 2 door soft-top.

I have absolutely no clue where to go with this... I want eventually 2- 12 inch Subwoofers and speakers that will be able to match the power as not to be drowned out by the bass. I have taken it in and gotten estimates but honestly I am trying to restore and replace everything on my own. Im not the best with cars or speakers, but there is no better way to learn than to do it yourself...At least thats what i think.

If you could point me towards the materials you would think I would need... Or point me towards a site with the essentials listed. I was told that i could buy everything i need and have it installed for 900 US dollars but that the items would be around 600 US dollars. Obviously if i screw it up, then it could be a costly mistake, but i am willing to take the risk.

well, simply said; good preparations!

as with all jobs you want to undertake by yourself, take the time for preparations!
I don't know the particular model car you're talking about but, for any car;
- door or dash?
for that you have to remove parts of the dash or door panel.
check where you have room...
what size will fit? do you have room for a 5" speaker or is there space for a bigger one? (measure)

personally I like the 2-way systems, where the tweeter is separate from the midrange/woofer.
the woofer is mounted in door or dash...the tweeter can be placed anywhere you like, cause it normally comes with it's own housing. (on top of the dash...in the corner of the a-pillar is common)

then the wiring...
once you know where you want it, you have to get the wires to the location. Always buy extra wires, because you will not have enough from the speaker package alone...
then you start the tedious job of pulling the wires, from the stereo console to the left and right side (probably to the filter unit and from there to each speaker)
if you want to do it well and invisible it will take time...days, rather then hours...but satisfaction every time you listen and look!
